Cahokia, IL (KSDK) - Nobody was hurt and none of the residents of a Cahokia apartment building were trapped after a car went out of control and crashed into the buildings staircase leading to the second floor units early Tuesday.

Police and rescue officials were called to the scene around 3:30 a.m. this morning at the complex in the 300 block of Cooper.

Police say the driver was westbound on Camp Jackson Road when he lost control of the car, went down an embankment, across the complex lot and into the wooden staircase.

The vehicle continued through the stairs, eventually coming to a stop across the street from the apartment building.

It was not immediately known what caused the driver to lose control of the car.  No names or arrest information has been released.

Damage was confined to the staircase and the vehicle involved in the crash.
