ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. (KSDK) - A pursuit involving the St. Louis County Police Department resulted in the temporary closure of Interstate 44 near Hwy 141 on Tuesday.

The pursuit began after a St. Louis County Police officer attempted to make a traffic stop of a Jeep Grand Cherokee along I-44.  When the officer exited his patrol car, the suspect fired three to five shots through his own back window and sped off.

The chase ended a short time later when the suspect's vehicle crashed just west of Highway 141.

The 36-year-old driver was apprehended after crashing.  Police have not identified why the suspect opened fire after first being pulled over.

No one was injured in the pursuit.

Police reopened all lanes of I-44 by 3 p.m.
