ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - The St. Louis Cardinals announced Wednesday financing for construction of the first phase of Ballpark Village has been closed.
Preliminary site work started Wednesday, and a formal groundbreaking ceremony will be held Friday, February 8.
The first phase of Ballpark Village is slated to be complete by Opening Day 2014 and will cost $100 million. The project will include 100,000 square feet of retail and entertainment space on Clark Street next to Busch Stadium. Streets, parking, and site infrastructure are also included in the first phase.
Other structures that will be built in the first phase include Cardinals Nation, Budweiser Brew House, and Live! at Ballpark Village.
Cardinals Nation will be a 30,000 square foot venue comprised of three levels and will include a two-story restaurant, a Cardinals Hall of Fame Museum, and a 300-plus seat deck with views into Busch Stadium.
Budweiser Brew House will be a two-story, 20,000 square foot structure with a rooftop party deck that will allow views into Busch Stadium.
Live! at Ballpark Village will connect Cardinals Nation and Budweiser Brew House and will be an indoor market with a retractable canopy that can be used as a gathering space year-round.
The St. Louis Cardinals and their development partner, the Cordish Companies, will announce additional details at the groundbreaking ceremony.
The total cost of building Ballpark Village will be $700 million.
