MAPLEWOOD, Mo. (KSDK) - Twenty-nine cars and homes in Richmond Heights and Maplewood have been pierced by BB pellets in the last two weeks. Police believe all the cases are connected. The incidents have been on weekends only and Maplewood has stepped up patrols to prevent it from happening again.
Detective Kerry Daniels warns the suspect doesn't realize he or she is putting themselves in great danger walking around with a weapon.
"It looks like a real gun and in the confusion you never know, a citizen may think it's a real gun and act accordingly or a police officer if they come upon them you never know what's going to happen," Daniels said.
Maplewood resident Kathryn Ashbury had a BB shot smack dab in the middle of her front door. The entire panel of safety glass shattered and she found a BB on the ground.
Another half mile down the road, Ashbury's neighbor also had a BB shoot through their living room window.
In addition to homes, more than two dozen car windows have been blown out. Annie Tazman had her front driver side window shattered. She is just one of six people on her street who had their car windows broken by BB pellets. It cost Tazman $300 to replace it.
"If you think about $300 per person on this street. It's kind of obnoxious," she said.
