ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - The victim of a brutal attack in the Central West End is sharing her story and has a warning for other women.

"I'm not saying that every human being is bad and going to hurt you. But just pay attention there are people that will hurt you," said Tania Smolinski.

Surveillance video captured the moments before a man pushed then punched Solinski just after 5 p.m. on Tuesday. It happened on Maryland Avenue, moments after she left her beauty school.

Smolinski passed the man, then he turned around and followed her. The man took off after she screamed and fought back.

"Fight or flight kicked in I don't think there was any thought in my head the thought was oh my god is this really happening. You think about it happening you see it on TV but I'm just grateful that I have a very big mouth and screamed and fought back," said Smolinski.

Police are increasing their presence in the Central West End.

The beauty school Smolinski attends now has a buddy system and no one is allowed to walk outside alone.

Police continue to search for her attacker. Anyone with information should call CrimeStoppers at 866-371-TIPS.
