ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - Following a recent spate of violence, including homicides and shootings, the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department is committing dozens of officers to a north St. Louis City neighborhood.
An employee in the police department, familiar with the hot spot efforts, says extra officers from the SWAT, Rapid Deployment and Traffic Safety units will help patrol College Hill. He says as many as 50 officers could be involved at one time. Early Wednesday morning, the police department's mobile command unit was parked in the neighborhood.
The College Hill neighborhood boundaries are E. Warne Avenue, Interstate 70, Ferry Street and Florissant Avenue.
According to 21st Ward Alderman Antonio French, there have been three shootings, two of them homicides, in the past few weeks. There was also a homicide just outside the neighborhood's borders, but the victim lived in College Hill.
