ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - A letter was sent home to parents of Jefferson Elementary School students on Wednesday.
Principal Nathalie Means says a student brought a gun into the building. She says it was confiscated by the school and that all St. Louis Public Schools have a zero-tolerance policy regarding weapons of any kind.
A 13-year-old student is in juvenile custody, accused of bringing the unloaded gun to school.
Means encourages parents to talk to their children about any fears they may have and to assure them Jefferson Elementary School is "a safe and caring place to learn."
The implementation of additional security within the district is being discussed, with the possibility of adding metal detectors to elementary schools.
