ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KSDK) - The Mayor's Mardi Gras Ball took place at St. Louis City Hall Friday night.

The event marks a weekend jam-packed with activities including the Mardi Gras parade Saturday at 11:00 a.m.

Mayor Slay lends his name to the ball, but it is put on by a private organization in effort to raise money for charity. Tickets were available to the public for $100 and the money will go to the National Blues Museum and charities in the Soulard area.

St. Louisans donned elaborate and colorful masks and a local Pink Floyd cover band, El Monstero, played during the reception. The band was personally requested by Mayor Slay.

"Pink Floyd isn't really a Mardi Gras band but the Mayor is a fan and he comes to all the shows," said guitarist Jimmy Griffin.

One party goer, Lois Ladd, was dressed from head to toe in purple and green for the celebration. It is her second year attending the ball and she recommends St. Louisans get the fun in this weekend while they still can.

"Well hey, you have to clean up your act for Ash Wednesday but up until that point you can party all you want!" Ladd said.
