SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (KSDK) - Illinois lawmakers are expected to vote Thursday to legalize same-sex marriage.
The measure would grant same sex couples the same rights as traditional couples.
It's expected to clear the Senate without problems, and then goes to the House.
Meanwhile, Wednesday morning two Alton Democrats each filed an amendment to the state constitution that would only allow marriage to be between a man and a woman.
It would have to be passed by both houses before being placed on the ballot.
