Local Red Cross volunteers deployed for tornado, Superstorm Sandy relief

ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - Several local American Red Cross volunteers are leaving to help disaster relief efforts in New York and Mississippi.

Lynne Badolato of St. Peters; Katharine Mayne of Columbia, Missouri; and Roy Sweet of West Frankfort, Illinois are headed to Hattiesburg, Mississippi to help with tornado relief.

Badolato and Mayne will help with client casework, while Sweet with provide meals to those in need.

Tornadoes damaged homes, businesses, and one emergency vehicle in Hattiesburg. The local Red Cross chapter was also damaged.

More than 100 trained workers have been mobilized to help with relief efforts.

Bob Whitlow of Belleville, Illinois is deploying to New York to continue relief efforts from Superstorm Sandy. This is Whitlow's third trip to the East Coast since the storm, and he will help a warehouse distribute disaster supplies.

Nearly 700 Red Cross workers are still on the ground in New York providing meals, helping with home repairs, rent, utility deposits, and help victims find social service programs.
