ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - Last week, construction of Ballpark Village started and NewsChannel 5 got a peak into what the entertainment area will include. Thursday morning, we found out who the newest tenant will be. Here's a three-letter hint: PBR. And that doesn't stand for the beer.
During a news conference Thursday afternoon The Cardinals announced PBR St. Louis: A Cowboy Bar, is being planned for Ballpark Village.
The Cordish Companies, the firm developing Ballpark Village, also brought Kansas City the Power and Light District, which has a similar bar called PBR Big Sky.
We wanted to know in what direction Ballpark Village is headed. After the news conference we asked whether the project will be family-friendly or aimed at adults.
"PBR is probably a little more on the adult-oriented of all the establishments that will be in the village," said PBR, Inc.'s Chief Operating Officer Sean Gleason. "But it's a contemporary country environment. It's really welcoming to fans of PBR and country enthusiasts in general."
"We want to make sure that we have an environment where people can stay three or four hours and there are options for everybody," said Chase Martin, Development Director for the Cordish Companies. "We have a park that's just to the west of our building that will emulate the old Busch 2 infield. We also wanted to have out of Cardinal Nation all things Cardinal. So this will be their first hall of fame and a unique attraction that's going to be one of a kind."
The first phase of Ballpark Village also includes things like Cardinals Nation, a two story restaurant, Cardinals Hall of Fame Museum, and a deck that looks into Busch Stadium, along with the Budweiser Brewhouse.
It's slated to open in time for the 2014 season.
