CHICAGO (KSDK) - The Cook County State's Attorney's Office charged a 28-year-old Edwardsville in connection with the February 12 death of a 27-year-old Chicago woman, the Illinois State Police said Friday.

According to an Illinois State Police spokesperson, Jennifer Mitchell was struck by both a car and a semi tractor and killed when she fell from the passenger side of her SUV as it was traveling southbound on Interstate 94 at E. 154th Street in the Dolton neighborhood.

Investigators have not determined if Mitchell was pushed or jumped from the vehicle, but said the suspect, identified as Michael Johnson, was driving the SUV when it crashed at an exit ramp near 127th Street. Johnson attempted to flee the scene on foot, but was later apprehended by state troopers.

Illinois State Police said Johnson has a criminal history which includes seven arrests and two convictions. The arrests include four charges for assault, one charge for larceny, one charge for criminal damage to property, and one charge for obstruction of justice. The two convictions were for domestic battery.

Michael Johnson is scheduled to appear in court February 15 in Marlham, Illinois.
