BARNHART, Mo. (KSDK) - A 40-year-old woman and 4-year-old child were rescued Tuesday morning after the vehicle they were traveling in overturned and landed in a Jefferson County creek.
According to Ron Harder, spokesman for the Rock Community Fire Protection District, someone spotted the van in the water near Highway M and Highway 61/67 before 7:30 a.m. and called 911.
When officials arrived, they found the vehicle nearly submerged.
Harder said Rock Community firefighters a short time later and discovered that a Missouri Highway Patrol Officer had already pulled the 4-year-old from the vehicle and aided the 40-year-old woman, but was unable to get them back up the step creek embankment.
Firefighters formed a human chain and helped the patrolman, the child and woman up the embankment, Harder said.
The mother and child were transported to an area hospital to be checked out but are expected to be okay.
