ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - St. Louis and St. Peters officials say it is a good idea to sign up for an alert system that will notify residents of weather watches, warnings, and other pertinent information.

The City of St. Louis and St. Peters are participating in a system called Nixle Emergency Messages.

For St. Louis residents, text STLCEMA to 888777 to receive updates.

St. Peters residents can register online through the city's website, www.stpetersmo.net, or directly through Nixle's website.

Extensive traffic, weather forecast and radar coverage will be broadcast on the city's local station, known as SPTV. The video features live views of Highway 70 at Highway 94; and another camera at the intersection of Cave Springs and Highway 70.

You can access SPTV via Channel 992 on Charter Cable, Channel 99 on AT&T U-Verse, and available live at www.stpetersmo.net.

You can also sign up for mobile weather alerts from NewsChannel 5 by clicking here.
