JUPITER, Fla. (KSDK) - The St. Louis Cardinals placed pitcher Chris Carpenter on the 60-day disabled list due to continued problems in his throwing shoulder, the team said Friday.
John Mozeliak, Cardinals general manager, said the move will give the club roster flexibility.
Carpenter, 37, pitched in only three regular season and three postseason games last season after beginning the year on the disabled list.
Carpenter has a 144-94 career record as a starting pitcher with a 3.46 ERA. He has the second highest winning percentage in Cardinals history (.683; 95-44) and 3rd in strikeouts (1,085).
