St. Louis (KSDK) - Sunday night, St. Louisans were part of the biggest night in Hollywood. Two nominees with local ties had a chance to take home an Oscar.
Minkyu Lee graduated from Chaminade College Prep in 2004.
Friends say he would spend hours in his dorm room drawing and knew early on he wanted to be an animator.
These days Lee's day job is with Disney but over the past two years he worked nights and weekends on an animated short film called "Adam and Dog."
It tells the story of the first ever bond between man and "man's best friend."
"The first day he put on his Facebook status, "my dream came true, real happiness, nominated for an Oscar," says Lee's high school friend Daniel Suarez.
Lee did not win, but his friends are confident he'll be back at the Oscars again soon.
Also nominated, but did not win, was Centerville native Reginald Hudlin. He was up for Best Picture as a producer of "Django Unchained."
