EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (KSDK) - Security officials at Southern Illinois University continue to search for suspects following an overnight robbery on the Edwardsville campus.
An e-Lert was issued early Monday by the university concerning an incident that occurred near the Cougar Village apartment complex just after 1 a.m. Monday.
The alert indicated security officers and police officials are looking for a man in his 20s, dark complexion, thin build, wearing a black jacket, stocking cap and carrying a handgun.
Investigators say a second man, also in his 20s, with a lighter complexion, 6' tall and slender, was also involved. That man was wearing a gray coat and stocking cap.
A spokesman for the university says the victim did know one of the suspects, and this was not a random act.
Police say the victim received a phone call from one of the suspects to set up a location for an illegal transaction.
When the victim and the suspects met at the predetermined location, the robbery occurred.
During the robbery the victim saw a gun, but it was never pointed at them.
A small amount of cash was taken.
The victim of the robbery was not a student at the university and was staying with someone at the time.
Both of the suspects were last seen in a vehicle eastbound on Cougar Lake Drive.
