ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - Construction gets underway Thursday on a new education and community center in south St. Louis.
The SouthSide Early Childhood Center has been helping low-income kids in St. Louis for the past 127 years.
Right now, it's located on Iowa Avenue. The new facility is being built on Jefferson near Interstate 44.
A ground breaking is scheduled at 3 p.m. The project is slated to cost about $3.5 million.
