SHILOH, Ill. (KSDK) - Civilian employees at Scott Air Force Base are facing furloughs as a result of the sequestration cuts.

According to Korey Fratini, Deputy Chief of Public Affairs, furloughs will start in April, 30 days after civilian employees are notified.

Fratini says the furloughs will last 22 weeks, until the end of the fiscal year, which results in a 20 percent pay cut for the weeks affected.

The following civilian employees will be exempt from the furloughs:
- Anyone deployed in a combat zone
- Anyone protected by the safety of life or property to the extent needed
- Non-appropriated fund employees
- Those exempt by law who hold a presidential appointment with Senate confirmation
- Foreign nationals
- Those excepted as approved by a two-star flag officer or tier two SES or higher

There are around 4,500 civilian employees at Scott Air Force Base.
