Driver arrested following wrong-way crash in West Alton

WEST ALTON, Mo (KSDK)-- A police pursuit of a home invasion suspect from Madison County, IL ended with the a man crashing head-on into a box truck near West Alton, MO overnight.

Officers in Madison County spotted a Chevy Silverado matching the description of the suspect near Alton, IL.

Madison County authorities lost track of the Silverado after it crossed the Clark Bridge into West Alton, MO.

Moments later St. Louis County officers picked up the pursuit near highway 367 at Parker Road and began chase at a high rate of speed.

As the chase headed back towards Alton the suspect turned at the intersection of highways 67 and 94 and began driving north in the southbound lanes of highway 67.

The pursuit ended when the suspect driving the Silverado collided head on with a box truck a little south of the Clark Bridge.

Highway 67 southbound was closed for a while overnight but has since reopened.

The suspect driving the Silverado was taken to the hospital for treatment of his injuries. The driver of the box truck was not injured.

The person was suspected in a home invasion in the 2800 block of Gerson Avenue in Godfrey. 

The Madison County Sheriff's Office said the man forced his way into a home, choked and battered a woman Monday night.  The victim was able to escape to a neighbor's home.  The suspect followed her and was confronted by another man, so he ran away.
