ST. LOUIS (KSDK) -- Dogtown St. Patrick's Day parade attendees will not be allowed to bring in coolers to the event.
The Dogtown Business Merchants Association and the Ancient Order of Hibernians and the Clayton Tamm Community Association adopted the rule this year to cut down on the amount of trash and underage drinking.
The cooler ban will be enforced at checkpoints within one block of Tamm Ave on March 17. Parade-goers attempting to enter with coolers, backpacks or boxes of packaged liquor will be turned away.
The checkpoints will be operated by professional security personnel, including St. Louis Metropolitan Police officers.
Those living within these checkpoints will still be permitted to have coolers. The ban only limits pedestrians entering the area with coolers.
