CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. (WQOW/CNN) - Some people have trouble just memorizing a phone number, but not this kid.

The Wisconsin high school senior memorized 1,000 digits of Pi.

Pi has a value of 3.14, but the number goes on and on.

"My math teacher has a plaque in the back of his room and the record was 128. I had to beat the record. So the first year I went for 500," said John Polus.

"He did that correctly and then as a joke I said, 'Well if you can do 500, you can do a 1,000.' He said, 'Sure, why not?'" said teacher Tony Reiter.

The student's accomplishment coincides with National Pi Day which is celebrated on March 14.
