CAHOKIA, Ill. (KSDK) -- A jury found a Cahokia man, who claimed to be helping investigators by downloading child porn, guilty of producing child porn and downloading hundreds of child porn files on his computer.

Charles Hicks, 24, was convicted of child pornography, receipt of child pornography and posession fo child pornography on March 14, according to U.S Attorney Stephen Wigginton of southern Illinois.

An undercover agent with the U.S. Secret Service's Southern Illinois Cyber Crime Unit identified a computer that was offering to share images and videos of child porn.  The agent downloaded three child porn images and then was able to identify the location of the computer.

Investigators said they traced the computer to Hicks' mother's home in Belleville.

Hicks admitted to investigators he downloaded child porn for two to three years in hopes that law enforcement officers would track him down so they could find the person making the images. They found 159 images and 130 video files on his computer.

Hicks also took two pornographic photos of a 16 year old.  One depicted Hicks having sex with the minor.

Hicks faces at least 15 years in prison and a potential fine of $250,000.  After he would be released from prison he would have to register as a sex offender as a condition of his supervised release.

His sentencing is scheduled for June 28, 2013.  He was ordered detailed without bond after the verdict.
