SAUGET, Ill. (KSDK) - Fire officials responded to a grass fire in Sauget Friday afternoon.

It happened outside American Bottoms Treatment Plant south of the Poplar Street Bridge along Illinois Route 3.

Investigators say the fire started when a transformer exploded, causing a 13,800 volt power line to fall on grass along American Bottoms Road.

Fire officials say they then got a call for smoke in the administrative building. They say the downed power lines likely melted phone lines into the building, causing the smoke.

Crews say there is no widespread power outage.

No one was hurt.
