MADISON COUNTY, Ill. (KSDK) - A Godfrey, Ill. man has been charged with DUI allegedly driving into a home in January, killing a resident inside.
Deputies with the Madison County Sheriff's Office responded to a call about a disturbance in the 200 block of Mercury Drive in Godfrey at 10:42 p.m. January 13.
When deputies arrived they learned a vehicle had crashed into a home in the 100 block of Saturn Drive, which is in the same neighborhood as the domestic disturbance call.
Jacob L. Fickle, 24, is accused of taking vehicle keys from a family member from the home on Mercury Drive and crashing into the home on Saturn Drive.
Marlin F. Bushnell, 73, was inside the home on Saturn Drive during the crash and died as a result of injuries sustained in the accident.
Police say Fickle fled the scene on foot and was found on the parking lot of the Beer Barrel Pub. He was taken into custody.
On January 15 Fickle was charged with leaving the scene of a traffic accident resulting in death and two misdemeanor charges of domestic battery after allegedly battering two separate family members during the original disturbance on Mercury Drive.
Fickle was also issued traffic citations for driving with a revoked license and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
On March 7 the Illinois State Police Forensic Services Division completed an analysis of biological samples which determined Fickle was under the influence of THC, cocaine, Alprazolam, and had a blood alcohol level above .08, resulting in charges being filed for aggravated driving while under the influence resulting in death.
Bond was previously set at $150,000.
