KSDK - A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for most of the NewsChannel 5 viewing area for tonight through Sunday evening, with rain this evening changing the snow after 2am.
We should see dry weather into early evening, but beginning late this evening a major winter storm will start to affect the area with the first of two waves of precipitation. It will start as rain but, after 2am, change to snow with some accumulations likely by sunrise.
From early Sunday morning to, as late as midday there will be a break, before the second wave of precipitation arrives. This will be almost exclusively snow and it will be heavy. By mid to late Sunday evening most areas will have 6-10" of snow on the ground.
This system may produce thundersnow... in which case those isolated areas may have more than 10". Areas south of metro St. Louis should see less that 6".
By Sunday night the bulk of the accumulating snow should end and we'll be stuck with nagging snow showers through sunrise Monday.
