SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KSPR/CNN) - More than eight years of embezzlement from Missouri State University could mean big jail-time for the bookstore's former manager.

Mark Brixey admits he stole more than $1 million from MSU. He pleaded guilty on Tuesday, which was welcome news for the university's president.

"When we learned of that theft, it probably was the saddest day I've had since I took this position. I look upon this, though, as a different kind of day. This is a good day. This is a day where we are on the road to justice," said President Clif Smart.

The case came to light when officials found $81,000 in Brixey's desk while he was on vacation. He could now face up to 43 years in prison.

Brixey could also end up paying restitution to MSU and more than $2 million in fines.
