Affton, MO (KSDK) - St. Louis County police say two friends sitting on a couch, fooling around with two handguns, leads to one being shot and the other arrested.

Police say the incident happened just before midnight, Wednesday, at a home located in the 8500 block of Philo Avenue in Affton.

Police say one of the men involved, takes a bullet belonging to a .40 caliber handgun and wants to see if it would work in a .45 caliber weapon. He places the weapon to his hand and pulls the trigger. He ends up shooting himself in the hand.

When police arrive, the man has his hand wrapped in towels. They ask him and the friend that owns the firearms where the guns are. The men told them they don't know. Police search the area and find both guns in the backyard of a neighboring house.

The man who owns the guns is arrested for interfering with police. His buddy who shot himself was taken to the hospital for a hand injury.
