LITCHFIELD, Ill. (KSDK) - A traffic stop along Interstate 55 southbound led to authorities seizing more than $16,000 in cash bundles, Illinois State Police said Thursday.
According to ISP Captain Brad Parsons, the incident occurred at milepost 53 in Litchfield. A state trooper stopped a silver 2003 Volvo station wagon for a traffic violation. During the traffic stop, the driver and passenger acted suspiciously, and the trooper opted to conduct a search of the vehicle.
The state trooper found several bundles of cash inside the car, Parson said. Documentation in the vehicle indicated the bundles were to be used for criminal activity.
Approximately $16,492 was seized.
The Illinois State Police is working with other agencies as the investigation continues.
