ROLLA, Mo. (KSDK) - A traffic stop turned into a pursuit Wednesday in Rolla, Mo.

Officers with the Rolla Police Department Street Crimes unit were investigating a narcotics case when they determined a man had sold heroin to another person.

Police tried to stop the alleged dealer in his vehicle at 10th Street and Independence, but the suspect would not stop, leading police on a chase through streets southwest of Rolla.

The pursuit ended when the suspect ditched his vehicle and started running, with officers pursuing on foot.

The suspect ran inside an apartment in the 1300 block of Independence. Nobody would open the door to the apartment so police forcefully entered the unit and arrested the suspect, identified as 31-year-old Fenton Metcalf Jr.

Metcalf was charged with distribution of a controlled substance, felony resisting arrest by flight. He was also charged for a probation violation in Crawford County.

When officers left a handcuffed Metcalf unattended in the back of a patrol car, police say he managed to escape and start running with his hands still cuffed behind his back.

Police say they apprehended him again in the 1500 block of Timber Creek Road. A charge for escape from custody was added to the previous charges.
