HIGHLAND, Ill. (KSDK) - The streets of Highland are lined with flags as the community will gather to pay their respects to a Marine killed in a training exercise in Nevada.
A second visitation for Corporal Aaron Ripperda is Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. at Meredith Funeral Home. The funeral will be at St. Paul Catholic Church in Highland at 10 a.m. He then will be buried at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Carlyle.
The 26-year-old Marine's body was brought back home on Monday. The streets of Highland were lined with thousands of flags and people paying their respects.
The Hopes for Heroes Program is looking for volunteers to remove the flags. Volunteers should meet at the Carlyle VFW at 1250 Franklin St. at 2 p.m.
