A bill banning illegal activity in Internet cafés passed the state Senate this afternoon and now will head for the desk of Gov. Rick Scott.
SB 155 by state Sen. John Thrasher, R-St. Augustine, clears up some ambiguity in current law covering machines operated inside Internet cafes. If Scott signs the law, it will delineate the difference between games of skill and chance. It will not affect businesses like Chuck E. Cheese or those at Walt Disney World.
The bill was passed by the House on March 22 and was filed in response to a multistate investigation that led to arrest warrants of 57 people and the resignation of Lt. Gov. Jennifer Carroll, who was not suspected of any crime.
