GALVESTON COUNTY, Texas (CNN) - It's taken 30 years, but police in Texas have finally made an arrest in the 1984 murder of a woman in Galveston.
San Leon resident Clyde Hedrick was charged Thursday with killing Ellen Rae Beason.
Hedrick was an acquaintance of Beason, who went missing in July 1984, at the age of 29.
Two years later, Hedrick was charged with abuse of a corpse because he dumped Beason's body near the Galveston Causeway.
At the time, it was believed Beason had died from drowning. But, authorities say new information that she may have been murdered led them to reopen the case.
After they exhumed Beason's body, authorities realized she had in fact been murdered.
Hedrick's arrest was part of a joint investigation by the Galveston County Sheriff's Office, the League City Police Department and the FBI.
