ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - An elderly woman has died after a man fleeing police hit the vehicle she was in.
St. Louis police say officers responded to a call asking for help locating an 18-year-old male suspect in another jurisdiction.
When officers arrived at the scene they located the suspect and asked him to step out of his vehicle.
The suspect put the vehicle in reverse, nearly hitting a police officer, and drove east on Osage.
He then hit a vehicle occupied by three people. An 87-year-old woman in that vehicle was transported to an area hospital in critical but stable condition. Virginia Bedrosian, of Greenville, Illinois, died of her injuries. The other two occupants of the car were taken to hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.
Police followed the path they believed the suspect took, and found the accident scene where witnesses gave a description of what happened and told police he was now running on foot.
The suspect was taken into custody after a brief foot pursuit.
A female under the age of 18 was with the suspect. She was taken to an area hospital for a wellness check.
The suspect's name will be released if charges are filed.
