Severe weather moves through St. Louis area

ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - A tornado warning was issued for parts of the NewsChannel 5 viewing area Wednesday night.

The tornado warnings have expired, but could be reissued for parts of the viewing area at any point.

Missouri Highway Patrol officers reported seeing a tornado at 8:05 p.m. in Hazelwood, moving into Florissant.

There are reports of damaged homes at Lynn Haven and Howdershell roads in Hazelwood.

A semi was knocked over in the parking lot at St. Joe's Hospital in St. Charles County.

Everyone at Lambert-St. Louis International Airport was moved to tornado shelters and lower levels of the airport.  All flights were on a ground stop until the severe weather passed.  All flights have resumed.

On April 22, 2011 an EF3 tornado hit the airport, parts of Bridgeton, and north St. Louis causing extensive damage.

Shortly before 8 p.m. O'Fallon, Mo. police tweeted power poles are down on Bryan Road near Osage Meadows.

The St. Louis County Office of Emergency Management tweeted a confirmed tornado was located near Wildwood and moving northeast at 60 miles per hour. It is unknown if there was any damage.

We're also getting reports of trees uprooted in the Godfrey, Ill. area.

Ameren is reporting around 42,000 customers are without power in Missouri.

In Illinois, there are approximately 4,450 without power in southern Illinois.

Winds reaching 101 miles per hour have been reported in Sullivan, Mo. and winds up to 70 miles per hour have been reported in O'Fallon, Mo. and St. Charles County.
