Red Cross Hazelwood shelter opens

HAZELWOOD, Mo. (KSDK) - American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter volunteers will assess storm damage Thursday morning.

American Red Cross spokesperson Mary Anderson said it will be going throughout the area feeding people who are doing clean-up and providing assistance for those in need.

Six people stayed the night at a Red Cross shelter at Armstrong Elementary School at 6255 Howdershell in Hazelwood.  It opened just after midnight Thursday morning.

The shelter was moved to the Hazelwood Civic Cecnter East at 8969 Dunn Road around 9 a.m. Thursday. 

A probable tornado tore through the north St. Louis community causing extensive damage to the Hazelwood-area. The Red Cross provided food and a place to stay for those affected by the storm until other arrangements were available.
