ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - After last week's storms, NewsChannel 5 heard complaints from some St. Louis residents that warning sirens never went off.

Most of the complaints came from The Hill neighborhood, which was hit by an EF0 tornado.

City spokeswoman Maggie Crane says the sirens were tested at the beginning of the month and they worked last week when the storms blew through. Crane says outdoor sirens aren't meant to be heard inside, and it's likely people who were in their homes didn't hear the sirens over the sound of strong winds and heavy rain.

The city has since re-tested those sirens ahead of the potential for more severe weather on Thursday.

"They're all in working order. We're good to go," said Crane. "We made sure that we had people out physically checking them both from the emergency management operations center and on the ground ahead of the storms headed out way."

A St. Charles County spokesperson also says all their sirens have been tested and are working.

If you have concerns about sirens in your area, contact your local emergency management agency.
