ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - The City Streets Department has started closing and erecting flood gates to keep the Mississippi River out of the City of St. Louis.
The river stage forecast predicts a 39.5' crest on the Mississippi River at St. Louis by Wednesday.
Four gates were locked down Thursday between East Grand and Madison Street.
At 7 a.m. Friday, four more gates were closed, and flood gates will be put in place at Poplar Street and Carr Street, along Lenor K. Sullivan Boulevard.
Gates will continue to be closed throughout the weekend, but the schedule will depend on forecast changes.
