ST. LOUIS, MO (KSDK) - Hundreds of runners gathered in Forest Park on Saturday to show support for the city of Boston and runners everywhere.

Organizers of the "Go St. Louis Marathon" put together the Unity Run in just days with the help of social media.

Several runners wore blue and yellow, the official Boston Marathon colors.

Many just ran the Go St. Louis marathon on April 7th and say they felt a special connection to the Boston Runners.

One of Saturday's runners ran in the Boston Marathon. Howard Mayes was crossing the finish line when the first explosion happened. At first he wasn't sure what was going on.

"As things kept on progressing and the other explosion I knew that it was something terrible. I thought about my wife and the possibility that she might be in that group and it was a pretty frightful time," said Mayes.

Luckily, he reunited with his wife and they were both unharmed.

On Saturday Mayes and other St. Louis residents were running with Boston in their hearts.

Mayes says he won't let this stop him from living his life and he plans on running in the Boston Marathon again.

"The St. Louis Track Club" also hosted a Unity Run at Forest Park on Saturday. Money raised will go to "The One Fund Boston," the official fund for those affected by the bombings.
