ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KSDK) - The Missouri Department of Transportation and U.S. Coast Guard are keeping an eye on the Jefferson Barracks Bridge.
The Coast Guard says on Saturday night it received reports that multiple barges broke loose and struck the bridge across the Mississippi River.
Officials temporarily closed the Jefferson Barracks Bridge around 2 a.m. Sunday for a bridge inspection. All lanes were reopened by 8 a.m.
MoDOT says it's confident that the bridge is secure, and monitored it throughout Sunday morning.
The Coast Guard closed the river in the area because nine barges had sunk. The river was reopened by 4 p.m. Monday.
