Clayton, MO (KSDK) - A woman who moved to the St. Louis area from Florida last year and was living in a Hazelwood hotel has pleaded guilty to reduced charges related to the drowning death of her baby boy.
The admission of guilt resulted in a seven year term in the Missouri Department of Corrections.
24 year old Brooke Maynard entered guilty pleas to involuntary manslaughter and child endangerment charges in connection to the December 3, 2012 drowning of nine month old Roman Bell in the bathtub of a room at the Extended Stay of America Hotel on North Lindbergh.
Police reports indicated Maynard was planning to bathe the infant and left the child unattended in the tub while she was using the telephone.
Maynard returned to the bathroom and found the baby not breathing and unresponsive. The child was pronounced dead a short time later at a nearby hospital.
Originally, Maynard was charged with felony murder and could have face a life prison term.
