LINCOLN COUNTY, Mo. (KSDK) - Flood waters are rising in Winfield, Mo., east of Highway 79.

Barry Nuss, fire marshal and public information officer for the Lincoln County Fire Protection District #1, says water has entered the yard of 10-15 homes in Winfield Acres off of Highway N. He says water has entered some of those homes.

Nuss says the Mississippi River level is steadily falling, but flood water in the Foley area is flowing south to Winfield. He says it is difficult to predict how high the water will rise in Winfield.

Because of the current levels on the Mississippi River, Nuss says levee districts are not able to pump water out of the area.

Levees are intact in Lincoln County, but there is danger of a breach until river levels fall significantly.

Nuss says everyone should stay away from levees, flood waters, and reminds drivers to not drive on flooded roads.

Sand and sandbags are still available for Winfield residents, and at this time volunteers are not needed.
