HIGHLAND, Ill. (KSDK) - In this age of supersized IMAX, and multi-screen movie theaters, the movie experience in Highland, Ill. is quaint by comparison. There's just one projector at Lory Theater. There are also singing ushers.

"Everybody that works here does them and before the movie you get whatever we come up with," said owner Hilary McLaughlin.

She and her husband Justin rescued and renovated the century-old Lory Theater last year.

"After decades of water damage and despite our best efforts, we could not do everything at once," said Justin McLaughlin.

Renovating a building erected in 1912 cost so much, the McLaughlins ran out of money before they could add a second digital projector. Without the income from a second projector and screen, the theater will struggle to survive. The projector costs $57,000.

The residents in the town of 10,000 residents are in love with the Lory and are rallying around the owners. From old school bake sales and car washes, to new school online crowd sourcing, the town is determined to raise enough money to add a second digital projector.

On the website Kickstarter.com, $38,000 has been raised. But unless the crowd sourcing campaign raises at least $57,000 in eight days, none of the money is collected.

The town is determined to help the Lory succeed. Lorraine Seiberlich is raffling off a Cardinals gift basket including baseball tickets.

"I was so upset when it closed and I cried, and I cried when it opened again," said Seiberlich.

"I am incredibly grateful and humbled by it but I knew this community had gumption, said Hillary McLaughlin.
