ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - Anyone with a crystal ball will be interested in this story. Soon, fortunetelling could become legal in the city of St. Louis.
Right now, the business of fortunetelling is illegal in the city of St. Louis but an alderman wants to change that.
Twenty-fifth Ward Alderman Shane Cohn introduced a bill to repeal a city law that prohibits fortunetelling. The city law says no person shall practice the profession of fortuneteller within the city. It goes on to say that those who do will be guilty of a misdemeanor. But is this city law really enforced? And how many people actually even knew about it? These questions are yet to be answered. One thing is for sure, this alderman is the first one in a long time to get us talking about it.
The reason some cities have these laws in place is to protect the elderly. Some communities believe older people are susceptible to being scammed by fortune tellers.
