Washington Park, IL (KSDK)- Police say they responded to a bizarre home invasion in Washington Park, Illinois.
They say they found a naked, crack smoking suspect inside the home of a great grandmother.
"I thought this man was going to kill me," said 61-year-old Shirley Snipes of Washington Park.
She says she was taking her dogs out on Wednesday afternoon around 4:30. She left the door unlocked for about fifteen minutes. When she came back inside she discovered someone was in her bathroom.
Police say the man was carrying a hammer and a crack pipe. They say 55-year-old Ronald McGruder of Washington Park attacked her.
Snipes says McGruder bit her all over her body and burned her wrist with his crack pipe.
She says after an hour struggle she finally escaped. She ran out of her home and locked McGruder inside. She then called police.
McGruder is charged with Home Invasion/Cause Injury, Aggravated Battery Bodily Harm/60+, Aggravated Battery/Great Bodily Harm, Unlawful restraint and Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance.
Bail is set at $1,000,000.
Snipes now has advice for others, "The older people don't let nobody make you a victim. Do not be a victim. Fight, defend yourself anyway you can."
She was transported to the hospital where she was treated and released.
She says the day after the attack someone allegedly stole her wallet so she doesn't even have money to pay for antibiotics right now. Donations can be made to The Bank of America in O'Fallon, Illinois under Shirley Snipes account.
