BRIDGETON, Mo. (KSDK) - Bridgeton Landfill is offering alternative housing for nearby residents during the next phase of the landfill project.

The program is voluntary and is offered to residents living in Spanish Village, the Terrisan Reste Mobile Home Community, and certain areas of the Carrollton Village Condominiums. Crews are working on removing concrete pipe sections to decrease the smell created by the landfill.

Residents are being offered temporary relocation because the smell will get worse before it gets better,

Bridgeton Landfill is offering to pay nightly hotel lodging fees and taxes at an extended stay hotel selected by Bridgeton Landfill officials for residents who choose to participate in the program. Hotel pet fees will also be covered. Residents will be responsible for food, transportation, and entertainment expenses.

The first night of extended stay lodging will be Sunday, May 19. The project is expected to last until June 14, but the completion date is subject to change. At least three days of notice will be given before the lodging program ends.

Residents wishing to stay with a friend or relative will be offered an inconvenience fee of $125 per week.
