MACOUPIN COUNTY, Ill (KSDK) - Overnight storms took their toll on several Macoupin County, Illinois communities late Monday into Tuesday morning.
The downtown of Mount Olive was blocked off in the morning as crews assessed damage and looked for downed power lines.
Fifteen buildings were heavily damaged. Engineers were called in to see whether any of the buildings were structurally sound.
The strong winds destroyed a storage building used by the local fire department. Another private storage facility business was also heavily damaged by the storms.
A Mount Olive bank was also hit.
Just miles away in Staunton, significant damage to the roof of Bill's IGA supermarket at the corner of Main and Madison.
No injuries were reported in either community, and authorities say they'll have to wait until daybreak before they know of any additional damage throughout the area.
