Gokul Venkatachalam competes in Scripps National Spelling Bee

WASHINGTON, D.C. (KSDK) - A Parkway West middle school student is returning to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.

Gokul Venkatachalam finished in 10th place last year.

The 12-year-old Chesterfield boy was knocked out after misspelling the word kahikatea.

Gokul is one of 281 spellers in this year's spelling bee.

Computer-based testing starts Tuesday with live broadcasts on ESPN 3 starting Wednesday.
