"We believe this route change will enhance the crowd's viewing experience, and showcase revitalized areas of historic downtown St. Louis, including Washington Avenue which was recently named one of the Top Ten Streets in the country," said William H. Macon, Jr., Grand Marshal of the 2013 Veiled Prophet Parade.
After stepping off, the parade will travel east on Olive Street, north on Tucker Boulevard, and then turn east on Washington avenue before turning south on 4th Street, west on Market Street, and ending at 8th Street.
On Wednesday, July 3, a balloon glow and block party will kick off the weekend of events. The first annual Balloon Glow and Block Party will take place from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. at Kiener Plaza. There will be live music, food, and the inflation of some of the parade's balloons.
On the morning of the fourth, Kiener Plaza will be transformed into Parade Town. The party will begin at 6 a.m. with registration opening for the Freedom Four Miler and Family Fun Run. The run will begin at 7 a.m. and the Fun Run will begin at 8:30 a.m.
Lt. Col. George Hardy and Col. George Boyd, two of the remaining Tuskegee Airmen, will be the honorary grand marshals for the 136th Veiled Prophet Parade.
