ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - Cardinals pitcher Chris Carpenter, who in March appeared optimistic about a 2013 return to the team, returned to the mound Thursday to throw live batting practice.
Chris Carpenter missed most of the 2012 season after having surgery on his throwing shoulder in July to fix persistant nerve issues. He returned late in the regular season for a few starts and pitched in three postseason games.
In February, Cardinals General Manager John Mozeliak said Carpenter was unlikely to pitch during the 2013 season.
